History Of Apple Computers

The Macintosh computer began life as the Apple I in 1976 when two friends, Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs with the aid of some friends built the first of fifty computers for the Byte Shop for $500 each. This first Apple computer came equipped with a display screen (a rarity at the time), and was the first computer with a fully assembled circuit board. Eventually, the little group made and sold two hundred Apple I for $666.66 each. With loan of $250,000 Steve Wozniak, Steve Jobs and Armas Clifford ‘Mike’ Markkula joined forces to form Apple Computer on April 1, 1976. By mid-1977, they had improved upon the design of the Apple I and the Apple II was made available to the public.

Ever wondered why the Company was named, Apple Computer? Simply because the trio realized that “Apple” would come before the most famous name in computers at the time, Atari. Over the years, Apple Computers continued to improve, becoming cheaper thereby making it easier for many homes to have a personal computer. Apple was the first computer company to use GUI (Graphical User Interface) in their machines; a concept that was to revolutionize the computer industry. After many trials and errors, Apple came out with a true home computer, the Apple Macintosh or Mac in 1984.

The Apple Computer was the beginning of desktop publishing era. Apple revolutionized publishing with its magic combination of a PC, it’s LaserWriter printer and specialized software, Aldus PageMaker and MacPublisher. Aldus is now Adobe PageMaker. These components allowed the designing and printing of documents complete with text and graphics. It is for this reason that the Macintosh is still a favorite among the graphic design crowd.

Apple faced stiff competition from Microsoft, especially in relation to the cost of PC-clones. Apple’s popularity waned and the home PC market was taken over by Bill Gates’ Microsoft. However, there are still many different lines of Macs on the market today: the iMac and Power Mac being two of the most popular.

Types Of Notebook Computers

Notebook, notebook computer, laptop, and laptop computer are different terms for a small computer, which is mobile, and weighing about 1 to 6 kg or 2.2 to 18 pounds, depending upon the model. In 1979-1980, Bill Moggridge of GRiD Systems Corp. designed one of the first laptops and named it as the GRiD Compass 1101. It featured the clamshell design where the flat display folded shut on the keyboard. In May 1983, Gavilan Computer Corp. introduced and first marketed as a laptop, known as Gavilan SC. About this same time, Sharp Corp.Ltd., announced their laptop Sharp PC-5000.

In 1989, Compaq introduced Compaq LTE, which was a laptop of a smaller size, about the size of an A4 paper notebook, and it popularly came to be known as a notebook computer or notebook. Thereafter the terms laptop and notebook began to be used interchangeably. Nevertheless, the terms, notebook and laptop are incorrect terms, as due to the heat, many laptops cannot be placed on top of the lap, and most notebooks are not the size of an A4 paper notebook. However, what manufacturers usually call as a notebook, end-users prefer to call it as a laptop; hence both the terms are used.

According to the functions and the models of notebooks, they are generally classified as: Ultraportables (screen is diagonally less than 12 inches, weight is 1.7 kg or less); thin-and lights (screen is diagonally from 12 to 14 inches, weight is from 1.8 to 2.8 kg); medium-sized laptops (screen is diagonally from 14 to 15.4 inches, weight is from 3 to 3.5 kg); and desktop replacement computers (screen is diagonally from 17 to 20 inches, weight is 4 to 6 kg).

The concept of laptop was to make a device that could use the same software of a desktop computer, but much smaller in size to enable mobility and support mobile computing (ability to use the computer while in transit). Thus, further innovations have introduced transportables (which can be moved from one place to another without supporting mobile computing); tablets (which feature touchscreens and support mobile computing); ultra mobile PCs (which are very small and compact tablet PCs); internet tablets (which support internet and mobile computing); personal digital assistants (PDAs), which are pocket-sized and support mobile computing; handheld computers, which represent expensive tablets or PDAs; and smartphone, which is a PDA or a handheld computer with cellphone integration. Over the development phases, these classifications got blurry at times, and many machines fused functionalities of other categories.

Notebooks can be used for various purposes. Commercial purposes like attending phone calls, receiving and sending emails and faxes, typing out letters and printing them, making presentations with pie and bar charts, and taking data from one place to another can be achieved by any standard notebook. However, high fliers prefer thin-and-light notebooks and for regular office work, ultraportable notebooks are preferred. Both are wireless notebooks so they can be remotely accessed. Scientific purposes are best suited with a notebook that features fast computing speed, good 2D and 3D graphics display, and a large memory, like desktop replacement notebook, and a thin-and-light notebook. Artistic purposes require animation, 2D and 3D drawings, interior & exterior designing, arranging music compositions, post-production audio-video work, etc., which can be fulfilled by desktop replacements, gaming notebooks, and mainstream notebooks.

Educational institutions normally do not prefer notebooks due to its high chance of being stolen. Additionally, they prefer that their assets do not move around within the premises in the hands of students who may be careless. However, to keep up with the times, and to be considered as techno-savvy, they do invest in notebooks. The types of notebooks best suited for educational purposes are mainstream notebooks, and desktop replacements. Students need a notebook to do projects, prepare study notes, and to play some games in their spare time. They need to take the notebook wherever they go, hence, size and weight are major considerations. The type of notebook that fulfills student needs is a thin-and-light notebook with locking facility so that they can lock it with their backpack. Most students report late submission of projects due to their notebooks being stolen.

So no matter what the purpose one might have for using a notebook, it seems that mobility will always seem to be the main reason for such a product purchase. Nowadays with so many models being offered with affordable prices, it seems that notebooks will always be a product in demand. After all it is one of the best selling computer hardware for quite some time. And that says it all.

Another step to protecting your computer is to install good anti-virus software.

Protecting your computer is not only about viruses and internet hackers. The key to protecting your computer is in understanding that no solution is perfect and that you should always trust your common sense before anything else. One way of protecting your computer is to uninstall software that you are no longer using. The second step in protecting your computer is to keep your anti-virus program updated by downloading the latest virus definitions. After all, protecting your computer is your responsibility. This exponential spread of malware means that protecting your computer is not just a personal issue anymore. A more advance technique to protecting your computer is to use a router to reach the Internet. It will help, BUT the most important ingredient in protecting your computer is YOU.

Protecting your computer is one job not too many users consider, despite the alarm signals from malware fighting companies and computer security experts. Much of the best software for protecting your computer is free. The most effective tool for protecting your computer is the one located between your ears. Another important defense in protecting your computer is ensuring that you have the latest service packs installed. With over 5000 Trojan viruses, Trojan worms and back door Trojan's on the internet, protecting your computer is essential. Also important for protecting your computer is anti-spyware software. Quick Tips To Speeding Up Your Computer

If you are like most people, then you rely on your computer for a lot of things. You probably use it for work, personal organization, research, and entertainment as well. You probably have one at your place of business, one in your home, and you may even have a laptop computer too.

With this being the case, you probably have no time and no patience for a computer that is running slow. Sluggish, slow to respond computers can cause you to bang your head against your desk. We have become accustomed to fast, efficient, technology that allows us to do things more conveniently, not more inconveniently.

Luckily, there are very quick, easy, and affordable ways to speed your computer up. More than likely, if your computer is running slowly, then you are having problems with your registry. A simple registry cleaning can get your computer up to speed in almost no time at all.

A computer registry is basically like a catalog system for your computer. It knows where all of the programs on your computer are stored. So whatever you put on, or take off of your computer will come through your registry.

Unfortunately, some of the programs that you think that you have completely deleted from your computer have not been completely recognized as such by your computer's registry.

You then have "spaces" and places on your registry that need to be cleaned up so that your computer can operate up to speed, and like a well oiled machine.

Fortunately, you can clean your registry and speed your computer up yourself. There is a lot of good software out there that does just that. You don't even have to pay an arm and a leg for it.

Simply do a search for "registry repair" and find out what your options are. And just remember you don't have to put up with a slow computer. You can do something about it right now.

Computer Viruses - How to Remove a Computer Virus from Your Computer

Computer viruses infect millions of computers every day. Viruses can destroy data, steal important information, and even make a computer completely unusable. When a computer is infected by a virus it is imperative that the virus be removed as quickly as possible.

If a computer is infected by a computer virus the computer needs to be scanned by virus scanning software. If you do not own virus scanning software than you may buy some software at www.norton.com.
If you do not wish to buy the virus scanning software at this point, than you may use a free virus scan which is located at www.mcafee.com.

In order to use the freescan;

1. Go to www.mcafee.com,

2. Click on home & home office

3. Under the heading of free tools
(at the bottom of the page), click scan now

4. Click scan now (accepting user agreement)

5. The program will download an activex control (make sure that they are allowed), click install when prompted to do so

6. Make sure C: Drive is highlighted and click scan

7. If any files are found by Mcafee to have viruses, go to that location on your hard-drive, and delete those files.

If you cannot access the Internet as a result of the virus or the computer is unusable, than other measures may have to be taken. If the computer is unusable, and you have another hard-drive on hand, than you may hook up the damaged hard-drive as a slave drive.

(Consult the user manual of your computer to see where your hard-drive is hooked up, and how your motherboard is setup). You will have to unhook your hard-drive, put a different hard-drive in as the primary drive, and hookup the damaged drive as the slave drive (make sure the computer is shut down and unplugged when removing computer parts, also make sure you are grounded (static electricity destroys computer parts)). Once this is done than you may boot your computer, and copy the necessary files over to the other hard drive. You may also run scans on your slave drive at this point, in order to remove the virus from the damaged hard drive.

Another way to remove a virus from your computer is to use the removal tools on www.symantec.com.

1. If another computer is available
(if the virus infected computer is unusable), than go to www.symantec.com

Computer Programmer

According to the BLS, employment in computer and software programming is projected to increase 68 percent between 2004 and 2014. In fact it’s the third fastest growing industry in the economy. Computer programmers earn between $30.00 and $35.00 an hour and progressing to management could increase this figure to $55.00.

What exactly does a computer programmer do?

Computer programmers write, test, and maintain programs and software - the tools behind every computer function. This involves complex coding, usually learned via a degree in computers. A career as a computer programmer might not seem the “sexiest” option for graduates of tech schools, but computer programming is behind every area of technology. The BLS predicts that job opportunities will be excellent for most computer workers; in addition, the salaries are a good deal better than average. Computer programming remains one of the most in-demand skills in this area.

How to become a computer programmer

A bachelor’s degree in computers is the most common route into computer programming. This degree could be in computer science, mathematics or information technology. If your skills are fresh enough, an associate’s degree may suffice, but a bachelor’s or master’s degree in computers should provide the best career advancement prospects.

In addition, graduates of tech schools with up-to-date computer training will have the best prospects in programming. Constant advances in technology mean that your relationship with tech schools should be an ongoing thing, further adding to your existing skills with diplomas and certifications where necessary.

Are you searching for ways to check your computer for errors, because you are sure that there are errors on your PC? I knew I was like that a few months ago, where my computer would freeze mysteriously for no apparent reason, or its processing speed would suddenly slow down tremendously. Luckily, I managed to find software that detected all the errors on my computer, and restore my PC back to its optimal working condition.

1. Most Possible Cause For Computer Errors

The reason why my computer had so many errors, even though I do not download files from the internet often, was because I did not know how to clean my computer registry. This is the area in your computer that contains all the instructions for programs to run in your PC. Without maintaining your registry, it will start accumulating with missing shortcuts, or entries with errors.

2. How To Repair The Registry?

I managed to repair my computer errors by running a cleaning software on my computer. Before the software performs any cleaning on your computer, it will first run a free scan on your computer to determine the amount of errors in the area first. You will also be able to know the type of errors detected.

3. Where To Get A Free Scan?

You can download a top rated software at my website link at the end of this article to run a free scan. You will then be able to find out from the software whether your registry requires fixing.

4. Maintaining Your Computer

Even after cleaning out your registry, you need to run frequent scans on your computer to keep it error free. You can schedule the software to perform a weekly scan or once every two weeks, so that you do not need to remember schedule them yourself.

How to Remove Spy Ware from Your Computer

I can still remember the day that it happened. I had just bought a brand new computer and went downstairs to grab a bite to eat. My teenage son took over my seat while I went downstairs to look up some music lyrics. 10 minutes later, when I went back upstairs I had so many popup windows open on my computer that I couldn't see the desktop. Within just a few minutes my computer had been invaded by dozens of these intrusive programs and they were having a party on my computer. It took me several days to remove them all.

Perhaps you have been in this same situation, you are bombarded by spy ware and all the problems that come along with it, from popup windows to hijacked webpages. If you want to remove spy ware from your computer you have a few options, depending on how advanced of a computer user you are.

For those that know their way around the computer and aren't afraid to edit things such as the computer registry you can remove spy ware by downloading programs that output a log of all the programs running on your computer. You would then post these results to a tech forum and they will give you instructions on how to remove spy ware from your computer.

If you have some extra money laying around you could also take your computer in to a tech support place and have their technicians work on your computer for you. Be ready to do without your computer for about a week and spend a hundred dollars or so for this service, something that I wasn't willing to do.

If you want a more automated way to remove spy ware from your computer there are several programs that will scan your computer for free and let you know what problems they detect. It can then run on your computer and clean it all up for you. There are very few spy ware programs that these types of software cant remove automatically.

Building A Computer Introduction

If you are reading this article, you are probably wondernig, why and how do you build a computer. Building your own computer is more simple than you think and has many benefits.

Why Build A Computer?

Building a computer has many benefits over buying a premade. First of all, it is generally cheaper if you build your own than buying one. If you shop your components, your DIY(Do it yourself) computer will be cheaper than its premade equivalent. An Introduction To Computer Security Software

Do you consider your computer one of your important investments? Does your job require a computer? Or is your job dependent on a computer system, so you can easily transact with clients and employees? If you answer yes to all these, then you have to give your computer the utmost care, maintenance and above all, security so you can enjoy using it to your advantage.

With the continuous rise of the number of people taking advantage of the power of the Internet, online threats also increase, and so is the risk of getting your computer infected. That is why it is important that you take adequate measures to prevent damage to your computer. One of these measures is to install computer security software.

Your computer should have security software. These include firewall, spyware scanning software and antivirus software.

Firewall is the software used to protect your computer from hackers and internal “malware” that is trying to “phone home.” Malware refers to the malicious codes that float around to harm your computer. With a firewall, all incoming traffic to your computer will be scanned for any irregularities, as well as all outgoing traffic. But when you buy a firewall, make sure to choose one that is easy to use.

Spyware scanning software is another type of software available. This is used to detect certain websites that run programs in the background of your computer, at the same time, gather information from it. Spyware can slow down your computer, and might have to be removed. There are two popular options for this type of software -- the Spy Sweeper and Adware.

Last but not the least is the antivirus software. This software scans the files on your computer and checks them for attributes that are in viruses or those that are linked with viruses. Two main companies offer this type of software: Norton and McAfee.

These are the different computer security software that you can install to better protect your computer. Whatever type you wish to have for your computer, make sure that you choose the one that works best with your computer’s configurations.
